Vertical blinds explained

The practical choice for wide windows and doors

Vertical blinds remain the most practical solution for wide windows, bi-fold doors and patio doors. The slats hang vertically from a track, so they draw effortlessly to one or both sides -- giving you a completely clear opening when you need it.

Every set of vertical blinds we sell is produced from start to finish at our factory showroom on Eastern Way in Bury St Edmunds. That means short lead times, consistent quality, and nobody else to blame if anything needs putting right. We source fabrics from Louvolite, Eclipse Blinds and Decora Blinds, so there is a good range of plains, textures, prints and specialist options to choose from.

Vertical blinds can be made up to five metres wide, which covers most bi-fold door openings comfortably. All of our blinds are on display in the showroom, so you can come in, feel the fabrics and see the finished product before ordering. We're in Eastern Way, easy to find, with ample free parking right outside.

Questions

Common questions about vertical blinds

Are vertical blinds suitable for patio doors?

Absolutely. Vertical blinds are specifically designed for wide openings and work perfectly with patio and bifold doors. The slats draw fully to one side, leaving the doorway completely clear.

Can you match existing blinds?

Bring a slat to our showroom and we'll do our best to match the fabric or suggest a close alternative. We hold a wide range of stock fabrics and can often turn this around quickly.

Do you replace broken slats or tracks?

Yes, we can supply replacement slats and tracks. Call ahead and we'll check stock for you.

What widths do you make?

We can make vertical blinds up to five metres wide, which covers most bi-fold door openings. Very wide windows are split into two linked sections that draw from the centre, so operation stays smooth and the blind hangs correctly.

Are vertical blinds suitable for bathrooms?

Yes. We stock washable vertical blind fabrics that cope well with moist conditions, along with a range of PVC fabrics that are completely wipeable. Either option works well in bathrooms and kitchens where dampness is a concern.

Can vertical blinds block out light in a bedroom?

Blackout vertical blinds are effective in bedrooms and work well when a TV or gaming room needs to be shaded. The overall effect is to dim out rather than achieve total blackout, because of the slight gaps between the slats. For most bedrooms, that level of darkness is more than enough.

Do you fit vertical blinds in conservatories?

We do. Face-fix vertical blind brackets allow clearance for the vanes to run clear of window handles, and vertical tracks wrap around each other in the corners. It keeps the whole run neat and functional, even on multi-sided conservatory layouts.

Are vertical blinds suitable for offices and commercial buildings?

Very much so. Dim-out vertical fabrics reduce screen glare on computer monitors, and we can supply flame-retardant fabrics where fire regulations require them. Schools, nurseries and offices are all well suited to vertical blinds.

Can vertical blinds help with energy efficiency?

Some vertical blind fabrics come with a solar reflective coating on the reverse side, which helps reflect heat back through the glass in summer and retain warmth in winter. It's a practical option for south-facing windows, conservatories and offices where solar gain is an issue. We'll show you the solar reflective options during your survey.
