Blackout options explained
Blackout blinds in Bury St Edmunds come in several forms, and the right choice depends on your windows, your room and how dark you need it. True 100% blackout is difficult with any blind — most leave some light at the edges where the fabric meets the wall or frame. The closer the blind fits to the window, the less light gets through.
We offer four main approaches. Nightshade is our premium option: a pleated cellular honeycomb blind with a sealed blackout frame, foam-sealed edges and side channels that hold the fabric tight. It's the closest you'll get to true blackout. Perfect Fit pleated cellular blinds clip into UPVC frames without drilling — good blackout for conservatories and bedrooms, though without the sealed frame of Nightshade. Roman blinds fitted inside the window recess give a warm fabric look with tighter light coverage. And blackout roller blinds fitted outside the recess overlap the frame for maximum coverage at the most affordable price.
We'll visit your home and recommend the best approach for each window. Sometimes different rooms need different solutions — a nursery might suit Nightshade for maximum darkness, while a spare bedroom does well with a blackout roller. That's what the free survey is for.
What we offer
Honeycomb cellular fabric inside a specially designed blackout frame, sealed with foam and fitted with side channels. This is the closest you'll get to true blackout — the frame stops light leaking at the edges where other blinds fall short.
Clips directly into UPVC window frames without drilling. The cellular fabric blocks light well, and the snug fit inside the frame reduces light gaps. A popular choice for conservatories and bedrooms with UPVC windows.
Soft fabric folds that look at home in any bedroom. Fitted inside the window recess for tighter coverage and less light leakage at the sides. A favourite for master bedrooms where you want warmth and style alongside blackout.
Fitted outside the recess, overlapping the window frame for maximum coverage. The wider the overlap, the less light creeps in at the edges. Straightforward, effective and the most affordable blackout option we offer.
The Nightshade honeycomb cells trap air between two layers of fabric, keeping rooms warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Research by the BBSA and the University of Salford found that honeycomb blinds can reduce heat loss through windows by up to 32% — a genuine energy-saving benefit on top of the blackout.
Nightshade is available in 12 fabric colours with a choice of white or anthracite frames. Enough range to match most room schemes without making the decision overwhelming.
